At the heart of the task of catechesis is the person of Jesus. Our belief in Jesus leads us to confess our faith in the Trinity - Father, Son and Spirit. The missionary mandate of Jesus calls us to proclaim, witness, teach, celebrate sacraments and love our neighbor. Through these activities, we share the Gospel with the world.
Parents are the primary educators of their children in the faith. It is through the
witness of Christian life given by parents in the family that children are formed to respond to the call of their Baptism. The care that is taken to model and explain the Christian and religious meaning of events together with parental support of formal catechesis provided by the parish's catechetical program form children in faith. "Family catechesis precedes, accompanies and enriches all forms of catechesis."
*Promotion of knowledge of faith, "Who has encountered Christ desires to know him."
• Liturgical education, Communion with Jesus Christ leads to the celebration of his
saving presence in the sacraments. We are called to full, active and conscious
participation in the Liturgy."
• Moral formation, "Conversion to Jesus Christ implies walking in his footsteps. The
Beatitudes are our indispensable point of reference for moral formation."
• Instruction in prayer, "To learn to pray with Jesus is to learn to pray with praise and
confidence in our God."
The catechists, priests and members of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, guided by the word and
example of Jesus and basic teachings of The General Catechetical Directory, partner to
evangelize and catechize our children into full participation in the mission of their Baptism in Christ.
